Favorite April Cover

Favorite April Cover

Since April is ending, I wanted to make a post about my favorite April magazine cover. I love this particular cover because it features Rihanna in a side slit maxi skirt. I love how her skirt has the zipper on the side because it makes it edgier and I am obsessed with skirts and shorts that have exposed zippers right now. She's sporting a boxy black and white checkered crop top and the look as a whole just exudes femininity with an edge. Her bold red lips and simple black liner is complimented by her short hair cut. I think my favorite part of this cover is probably the smallest detail, her nails. They're a plain white, but they stand out so much against her skin tone and the outfit!

Oatmeal Face Mask

Whenever I need to exfoliate my face, or just need a good soothing face mask, I use oatmeal. Oatmeal is known to be a good meal, but it's also good to use on your skin. I personally have very sensitive skin and I am known to break out whenever I use something that is too harsh. This face mask also is a good mask to use if you have acne. With an oatmeal mask, I never break out and it leaves my skin glowing and feeling smooth! The best part is that it's made with ingredients I always have~

For this facial, you need:
  • a handful of oatmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of honey (optional)
  • 3/4 teaspoon water
Steps
  1. (optional) Take the handful of oatmeal and grind it down to powder
  2. Mix the ground oatmeal, honey, and water in a bowl until a paste is formed
  3. Apply the paste to your face, excluding your eye area
  4. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes
  5. Rinse the mask off by gently massaging in a circular motion (this helps exfoliate)
  6. Moisturize with your usual moisturizer
(Do a patch test to ensure that you're not going to have a reaction)

Why are oatmeal face masks good?
  • Oatmeal is said to heal skin and provide a soothing relief from redness and irritation.
  • Oatmeal moisturizes your skin because oatmeal is full of healthy, lubricating fats.
  • Oatmeal has proteins that helps keep the skin's natural barrier intact. This ensures that the world stays out, and what's in the skin stays in.
  • Oatmeal has saponins, which are natural cleansers, that clean out pores.
  • Oatmeal prevents flakiness and dryness because it leaves a thin protective film on the skin.

With mask (unground oatmeal, no honey)

Prom Do-Over

Prom Do-Over
It's prom season, and if I had the opportunity to re-do mine, I would. For my senior prom, I wore a black high low dress that had a hot pink lining, and a giant hot pink bow sash. I really regret it because I ordered it online about 2 months before my prom in the hopes that I would be able to get it altered in time. Unfortunately, the dress came a couple of days before prom and it was the most ill fitting dress that I have ever worn. The bust was too large and the dress was way too long. If I could have a prom do-over, I would go for a shorter neutral dress (that fits well) and have more accessories that pop with color. I definitely would have gone with purple and aquamarine as my accent colors. Instead of wearing my hair up, I know now that it looks better in big beautiful curls. The only good thing about my prom ensemble was that I was ahead of the trend with my high low dress~ I think the key to having a good prom outfit is to make sure that your dress fits perfectly!

Only decent photo of my dress~

Adventures In Nail Art: Nail Stickers

Last year,I really enjoyed using nail stickers. I got cool, vibrant, and detailed designs on my nails that lasted for about 2 weeks and they only took 5 minutes to apply! I would just have to peel them off and apply them to my nails and remove the excess from around my cuticles. The process was extremely simple. I used the Sally Hansen Salon Effects which are around $9-10 if I remember correctly. It comes with the 16 stickers, a cuticle stick, a buffer, and a nail file. The instructions were very detailed and simple to follow. Unfortunately, I had to stop using them because I felt like they were destroying my nails. After I would take the stickers off, the texture of my nails would be rougher and messed up for about a week. It appeared as though the top layer of my nail was being removed by the stickers. Even though I had a beautiful manicure for 2 weeks, I don't think the condition of my nails after I removed them was worth the investment. I like to be able to switch nail designs quickly, so I didn't like taking the time to try to repair them in between manicures. I would just work with using regular nail polish instead. Stamps are a great way to get detailed manicures without the hard work as an alternative!

Good Jeans

Good Jeans

A perfect pair of jeans can make anyone feel special! They can hide problem areas and flaunt curves and you can pair them with just about anything. I went for a more casual, comic book style with this look. The batman ring and the funky shoes are just the right amount of quirky attitude, while the messenger bag and watch balance out the look.
